My Approach

I work with a powerful integration of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centred Therapy (PCT). Research confirms that this combination is preferable to either on its own.

CBT is a structured, actionable psychotherapy that aims to identify and challenge distorted thinking patterns, beliefs, and behaviours to improve emotional regulation and develop personal coping strategies. It focuses on the interconnection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, helping you modify unhelpful cognitive and behavioural patterns to achieve better outcomes.

PCT is a relational therapy that works through us fostering an authentic relationship in our work together. You are offered genuine acceptance, non-judgement, and a listener who really does want to understand.

You are a holistic system, so while our work will include exercises like goal-mapping, thought records and behavioural homework, we will also discuss lifestyle factors like nutrition and exercise.

Common Questions About Therapy

Can therapy fix me?

It might sound like a cop-out, but the most accurate answer is that there are many variables that affect how successful therapy can be for an individual. During your free 20-minute call, we will discuss why you are exploring therapy, my approach, whether we feel we could work well together, and what might be some realistic expectations for outcomes.

How many sessions will it take for me to see a difference?

Every run of therapy is unique. Many clients begin feeling different after as few as 3 sessions. However, the truth is that the longer you are in therapy, the deeper we will likely be able to work. We will check in with each other frequently to see where we feel we are at.

Does my therapist ever think about me between sessions?

I often think about my clients in between our sessions. In therapy, we form a genuine relationship where there is no limit to how much of yourself you can share. An engaged therapist is deeply impacted by their clients.

Is my therapist just pretending to care about me because it is their job?

If the therapist doesn't genuinely care, it's not therapy. I find it impossible to imagine it being any other way. See the above answer.

Is my therapist judging me in our sessions?

I strive to offer a truly accepting space free of judgement. However, an important ingredient in this approach is that I wear no masks in our sessions. I may sometimes communicate how something you said or did impacted me. This will not be a judgement, but rather an important opportunity for us to collaboratively explore how you may be experienced by those you interact with in your life.

I will be happy to discuss any further concerns or questions you have on a free 20-minute call.
